June 2009 Art Exhibit
Marion Jansen, Watercolors

Lincoln

Marion Jansen has been painting with the Front Street Studio in Housatonic with Kate Knapp for nine years. She started formal art instruction at the Art Students League in life drawing with Tom Fogarty back in 1957.

It was a move to the Berkshires in 1996 that brought art back into her life in 1998, when she studied with Steve Dietmann at the Humphrey Street Studio in Great Barrington. The Berkshires provide Marion with inspiration, and working with the other artists of the Front Street Studio takes care of the rest.

Marion's work can be viewed at the Lee Library Gallery from June 2nd through 27th. There will be an artist's reception at the Gallery on Tuesday, June 2nd from 5pm to 7:30pm.

Dedication of J. Peter Scolforo Gallery

The Lee Library Association honored J. Peter Scolforo on December 3, 2008 by dedicating the art gallery in his name.

Peter was a member of the Board of Directors of the library for more than 30 years, and its President at the time of his retirement from the board in 2008.

Among many other contributions to the library, Peter was instrumental in obtaining a $275,000 grant in 1972 which made it possible to build the addition where many of the library resources, including the art gallery itself, are located.

Mary Philpott, the current President of the board, said: "This is the most fitting thing we could do because this [the gallery] wouldn't be here without him".
